This guide is meant to be a supplement to this guide http://www.dkundergr...server-tutorial

1. Installing SQL Server 2008

Spoiler

2. Setup Dekaron Databases

Spoiler

3. Run the "SN" query

Spoiler

4. Setup new login (optional, but best for security)

Spoiler

5. Configure ODBC

Spoiler

And that's it for now on setting up SQL Server 2008 for Dekaron. Your database is now ready to be used by the game's server files.

Not to take anything away from your tutorial because it's nicely written and has good pictures, but it makes me lol to see that pretty much nothing has changed in 5 years other than how it looks.

Yea, it's all basically the same. I made this as I've been getting a lot of questions lately on how to do Dekaron setup on SQL Server 2008.

2012 is now out, so I'm going to have to check that out and see the changes they made.

Personally I prefer 2008. I made the switch about 5/6 months into my time running Rusaki and have been loving it since.

Also, something I didn't see: the ODBC setup. Is this not required with 2008?

Edit: Ok, i just set it up on a friend's computer. It does require that so you might want to add it. Also, SQL 2008 is set up for dynamic ports. So you have to go into the configuration editor enable TCP/IP and turn off dynamic ports.

Added the ODBC as well as how to disable "sa" and create a new login. The post got pretty long with all the images so I encapsulated everything into "spoiler" sections.

Changing the TCP/IP configuration is unnecessary. With the default settings it is configured to use port 1433 which is what you need.

Well, I'm not sure what my friend did. He said he followed your guide and when I checked the settings, dynamic ports were being used.

It's not an issue, and it's due to using server 2003.

http://social.msdn.m...9e-9d7c871a2eb0

This checks verifies internet connectivity. The check does not run Windows 2003 because the APIs to verify internet connectivity are only available on Vista and higher. The reason for the check is it verify the internet connection because .NET always tries to connect to CRL.MICROSOFT.COM on startup to check signature validation. If the connection is not available it causes the management tools like SSMS to block for 45 seconds on startup every time. Since you are on Windows 2003 the check was skipped and you can ignore the check.
